It barely one year on 31st May 2017 when the new Standard Gauge Railway was open to use to the public by the President after its completion. The Kenyans workers are now complaining of mistreatment by the Chinese seniors and counterparts.
The Kenyan workers receive a salary of Kshs. 30,000 with fewer allowances as compared to their Chinese co-workers who receive a monthly salary of 100,000 plus other allowance and a free house or an apartment. The Kenyan workers are not allowed to use the Chinese canteens at the places of work. They are also punished when they do mistakes. Many of the Kenyan SGR workers have been sent away for no clear reasons for being sending away.
The SGR vans are not allowed to transport workers from Kenya to and from working place and in case they do pick the Kenyan workers they do so under very strict rules that no Kenyan should occupy his or her Chinese counterparts’ seats.
The revelation by the Standard Gauge Railway Kenyan worker have left many in shock as Kenya is an independent state and governed by the rule of law and therefore every individual and worker in the country.
This comes after there was an outrage by Kenyans in the media ordering the bringing down of a billboard had been erected by a Chinese construction company in Mombasa road in Nairobi for advertisement. It has been seen by the Kenyan people s if the Chinese have started to colonize Kenya as for the case of t a billboard the law requires a billboard written in one of the indigenous languages or either English and Kiswahili or any other language that can be understood by Kenyan people.
It is barely one year on since the SGR was opened for use on 31st May 2017 by the Kenyans by President Kenyatta after its completion. The SGR was built to replace the Kenya Uganda railway build by the colonial authorities in the colonial period in the 19th century.
The SGR was commissioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015. It was estimated to be completed at a cost of Ksh.320 billion and was to be funded by the Chinese government and the main contractor of the project was China Roads and Bridge Corperation.
