Four governors in less than five years.

Former Nyeri county deputy governor Edward Mutahi Kahiga has been sworn in today 13th November as the Nyeri governor after the former governor Wahome Gakuru died in a grisly road governor in Kabati, Muranga along Thika highway where the Mercedes Benz he was traveling in from Nyeri to Nairobi to attend a local radio show in one of the local radio stations was involved in an accident. The vehicle hit on a guardrail after a tire burst amidst heavy downpour on that fateful morning which led to the metal spearing through the car allegedly killing the governor according to the police.

This comes against divisions among Nyeri residents that he should not be sworn in so first and that he should be sworn in after the late governor is buried. Others support the idea as its not the first time they are experiencing the same situation as a county and therefore they belief they should move on as a county.

This occurs less than one year after the first governor Nderitu Gachagua died while undergoing treatment in London. This led to the then deputy governor succeeding him before Wahome was elected as the governor in August 6th polls.

According to the constitution of Kenya 2010, in case of a vacancy in the office of the governor, the deputy assumes office for the rest of the remaining term.
